    D R Melbourne

    D R Melbourne was founded and manufactured haversacks, pouches, webbing items and other uniform wear. Later the company expanded into the manufacture of workwear such as Chef’s Uniforms, Bib and Brace, Overalls, Warehouse Coats.

  • 1960’s

    The McGuinness family arrives

    The company was taken over by Allen McGuinness and under new leadership branched out into made up textiles items for various industrial purposes. The new products manufactured included filter bags, laundry bags, security cash bags, thermal covers and a variety of other specialist items.

  • 1970

    DRM Industrial Fabrics Ltd. founded

    In 1970 DRM Industrial Fabrics Ltd. was born and took over the new products from D R Melbourne. Derrick Cairns was brought in to run the technical textiles business. In 1980, the workwear business of D R Melbourne was sold on and later the business went into liquidation leaving DRM Industrial Fabrics Ltd. as an independent company.

  • 1991

    New Directors

    Peter McGuinness takes over as Managing Director to keep DRM Industrial Fabrics Ltd. as a family run business upon the retirement of Allen McGuinness. In 1993, Richard Hoyle joined the business and in 1995, Derrick Cairns retired.

    DRM becomes ISO certified

    We proudly received our first ISO certificate in July 1994. Since then DRM continuously work on improving its internal processes to adhere to the latest standards.

  • 2000

    Time for expansion

    The company moves premises to Bond Street, Bury to improve facilities as demand continues to increase for its products. The move allows a single production area and large modern office accommodation.

    Improved technologies

    Laser cutting introduced at DRM as part of the continued development of new technologies. A computer based MRP system had been in use for 10 years, ultrasonic welding technology was in use and the latest computer controlled pattern sewing machines were replacing older equipment.
